An engineering ectoine strain was developed and an efficient synthetic method has been created by the research office of bio-engineering, TUST recently and the research was published in Metabolic Engineering, a top journal of bio-engineering.
The office has utilized optimal theory in bio-synthesis and developed a new technique to produce efficient and low-cost tetrahydropirimidine with marketable purity through fermentation and distilling. The fermentation-based ectoine production is a subversive method to the traditional method of obtaining it through halophilic bacteria in high salinity.
Tetrahydropirimidine is antioxidant, penetration-resistant, moisture-replenishing, UV-preventing, cell-protecting and has been widely used as an protective agent in enzyme industry. It is also used as a major ingredient in luxurious cosmetic brands like Dior and Shiseido, etc.
TUST has signed an agreement to transfer the technique to a major cosmetic material enterprise to accelerate the industrialization process.
