TUST Attended WESTPAC Conference

  From 17th to 20th, the 10th International Scientific Conference of the IOC(Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission) Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific(WESTPAC) was held in Qingdao, a coastal city of east China’s Shandong Province.

  More than 600 representatives from 22 member states and related international organizations attended the conference and conducted in-depth discussions by delivering keynote speeches and holding special sessions on such scientific and social issues as marine environment protection, climate change, marine organism, oceanographic observation, data and information collection, coastal zone management, the Blue Economy, and so forth.

  A panel of experts from College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, TUST, joined the conference, in which Prof. Sunjun delivered a special report by the name of “Indian Ocean Investigation in China”, systematically introducing the works his team had done within the scope of Indian Ocean in the past nearly 5 years. And researcher Kan jun and associate researcher Wangjing also respectively made reports on the research progress of Nitrogen circle in the perspective of molecular ecology. The reports aroused deep interest of other present experts, who exchanged in-depth views with each other on such related issues as carbon sink of phytoplankton in Indian Ocean.
