Seminar on Salt Lakes and Salts Held at TUST

  On 8 May, 2017, the opening ceremony of “Advanced International Academic Exchange on Salt Lakes and Salts” took place in Binhai New Area, Tianjin. The seminar was jointly hosted by International Society for Salt Lake Research (ISSLR), Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) as well as The Institute of Mineral Resources (IMR) of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS). Seven salt industry enterprises and over 80 experts from China, the United States, Russia, Iran, Israel, India, Uzbekistan and Algeria etc. were convened for the seminar on the industrial development of Sale lakes and Salts.

  TUST President Han jinyu attended the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all the experts in attendance from both China and abroad, and expressed his deep appreciation to the friends across the world who have showed much care and lend great support to the development of TUST over the years. Han pointed out that the College of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science of TUST took the lead in development and utilization of salt lake brine and salt industry growth, with the fruitful achievements in scientific research on energy conservation and emission reduction of salt production, as well as on the comprehensive utilization of sea and brine water resources. Zheng Mianping, the President of ISSLR and an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fu Bingfeng, head of IMR, as well as Zhang Hongyu, the Vice President of Eontop (Yingcheng) Healthy Salt Production Co., Ltd, also made speeches respectively.

  Experts participating in the seminar would make a succession of academic reports during the event. According to the schedule, Prof. Aharon Oren with Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Microslaw S. Gruszkiewica with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as well as Researcher Nickolai Shadrin with Russian Academy of Sciences would make academic reports respectively with the themes of “The Microbiology of the Dead Sea: Past, Present, and Future”, “Experimental Approaches and Modeling of the Properties of Aqueous Salt Solutions” and “Peculiarities of Structure, Functioning and Dynamics of the Salt” on the following day. Reportedly, the seminar will last for 5 days, and combine report discussion and on-the-spot investigation.
