COMSATS Executive Director and His Colleagues Visited TUST

  April 18, six visitors headed by Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, Executive Director of COMSATS, and Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), visited Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST). Professor Zhang Aihua, Vice Chairman of TUST, met with the visitors at the meeting room of Run Shaw Building of TUST Coastal Area Campus. Leaders of Scientific Research Office, College of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, College of Biotechnology, International Exchange Office joined the meeting.

  Professor Zhang Aihua welcomed the visitors who just finished the 22nd COMSATS Coordinating Council Conference which was held in Tianjin. He expressed sincere thanks for the strong support from COMSATS for the cooperation among developing countries. Prof. Zhang gave a presentation about TUST history, characteristics, strong majors, scientific research achievements, international exchange and cooperation, scientific and cultural innovation, Pakistan students. He hoped that TUST could establish international links with COMSATS and CUI, seize the opportunities brought by Belt and Road Initiative, fully utilizing their own strength, push forward practical cooperation in science and culture, gain mutual benefits and make greater contributions to the friendship between China and Pakistan.

  Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi thanked TUST for the hospitality they received. He said that the friendship between Chinese and Pakistanis is the most sincere and pure in the world and the all-weather friendship between China and Pakistan is very firm. He hoped that besides TUST’s cooperation with Pakistanis universities TUST could render help and support to universities from other 25 COMSATS member countries.

  Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar said that CUI is a top university in Pakistan now after its 20 years development, but it still has a lot to learn from Chinese universities. He hope that a MOU could be signed between TUST and CUI after further communication and discussions. After signing the MOU, the two universities will start staff and students exchange and joint international scientific research projects.

  Leaders of Scientific Research Office, College of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, College of Biotechnology gave presentations about TUST’s scientific research, and briefs of the two colleges.

 After the meeting, the visitors visited Food Nutrition and Safety National Key Lab and labs of College of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, College of Biotechnology.

 

About COMSATS

COMSATS (Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South ), founded in 1994, with headquarters in Pakistan, is an international inter-governmental organization aiming at pushing forward sustainable development of the developing countries through South-South scientific collaboration. At present it has 27 state members, 14 of which are Belt and Road countries. China is one of the founding members. The 4th, 11th and 22nd COMSATS Coordinating Council Conference were held in China in 1999, 2008 and 2019.  

The 22nd COMSATS Coordinating Council Conference debuted in Tianjin on April 16, 2019. Experts and scholars from 18 countries including China, Egypt, Bangladesh, Columbia and Turkey attended the conference. Mr. Yao Laiying, Deputy Governor of Tianjin attended the opening ceremony. Professor Cheng Bowen, Vice President of TUST, and leaders of Graduates School, College of Biotechnology and International Exchange Office attended the opening ceremony. The conference was hosted by Tianjin Industrial Biotechnology Institute of Chinese Academy of Science.  

 

About CUI

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI ) is a public university in Pakistan. It has many campuses, with the campus in Islamabad as the headquarters. The other campuses are located in Lahore, Vehari, Abbottabad, Attock, Virtual, Wah and Sahiwal. It has about 38000 students.

 

The CUI was established in 1998, as a project of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS). CUI got its charter in August 2000. CUI is the first independent information technology institute. In 2014, its QI was among the top 250 universities in Asia according to QS. And according to NatureIndex, its computer science and IT is ranked as No. 1 in Pakistan.
