UHI VP Visited TUST

  April 4, Mr. Lorenz Cairns, Vice Principal of University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) visited Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST). Prof. Cheng Bowen, Vice President of TUST, met with the visitors. Heads of College of Marine and Environmental Sciences and International Exchange Office attended the meeting.

  Prof. Cheng Bowen welcomed the visitors and gave them introduction about TUST’s teaching, scientific research and joint education programs. Mr. Lorenz Cairns expressed their thanks for the hospitality they received and gave a presentation about UHI’s history, teaching, scientific research and collaboration with enterprises.  
  Heads of College of Marine and Environmental Sciences and International Exchange Office also gave detailed information about collaboration between TUST and UHI. TUST and UHI enjoy many similarities especially in marine science. That indicates that possibility for joint education programs and joint research is very high.
  Prof. Cheng Bowen suggested that the two universities should start the collaboration in sending scholars to attend international academic conferences hosted by the other party and then move to cooperation and exchanges in other fields.
  After discussions, the two parties agreed to sign a MOU after further contacts and communication.

  The University of the Highlands and Islands is the only higher education institution in the highland and islands of Scotland and comprises colleges and research institutions. It is a famous integrated university and one of the biggest universities of UK. Its colleges and research institutions are located all over Scotland. As a modern public university, UHI is enjoys a good international reputation in teaching and research. Some of its research centers are of world level. There are more 40 departments in its 13 colleges. At present, more than 40000 students are in languages, bachelor, master and Ph. D programs at UHI.
