Remarkable Progress in Overseas Students Education
2018-03-14

The education of overseas students (hereinafter referred to as students) in 2017 achieved significant results. Guided by the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan of TUST, and under the leadership of TUST Party Committee of CPC, relevant administrative departments and colleges work together to facilitate the work related to students in recruitment, teaching, administration, graduation and the like.

The year 2017 saw a record number of students recruited. In the first half of the year, over 180 students from 22 countries submitted the applications for degree programs or Chinese study to TUST. And by the end of 2017, the students with degree programs totaled 134, up 130% from the previous year, which marked historic breakthroughs in the work of the students. On top of the Chinese Government Scholarship and Tianjin Municipality Scholarship, TUST scholarship for overseas students was launched, by which the scholarship system further improved. Thanks to the various scholarships, the number of students studying in TUST was enormously increased, with a total number of 1075 throughout the year.

Over the past year, TUST focused efforts on recruiting students from countries along the Belt and Road areas, as well as from overseas partnership universities. The students came from 29 countries, among which there were seven new countries sending their students to TUST for the first time. Besides, TUST had adopted the measures to facilitate the construction of major courses taught by English. In 2017, major courses taught by English were newly opened in the specialties of Bioengineering and Master of Business Administration(MBA), following the launch of major courses taught by English in the specialty of International Economics and Trade by English.

Adhering to the concept of “People First, Service Priority”, TUST paid attention to key points in the process of recruitment and in daily services, prioritize to recruit students at Master and Doctoral level for the preponderant disciplines. In addition, working with relevant Colleges, International Exchange Office drew up the regulations on the management and services for the students. As an important part of the Internationalization Strategy of TUST, there is a long way to go in overseas students education. In the future, TUST would further enrich curriculum systems, and set up practical and educational bases of Chinese culture for the students, and continue to advance the management system identical with that of Chinese students. At the same time, TUST would work hard to make its faculties more internationalized, and to ensure a safe campus environment for the students. By doing so, TUST had fostered a favourable atmosphere for the students to study.
